CLASS DESCRIPTION This class will take you through the 3 basic steps or techniques needed to knit socks. Why knit socks? Portable knitting, easy, great gifts, and handknit socks feel amazing! Even in Florida!
NUMBER OF SESSIONS- 3- Saturday afternoons 2 weeks apart
Class 1- Start the sock, Class 2: December 2nd- Heel turn, Class 3: December 18th- finish the sock and start sock 2
MAX NUMBER OF STUDENTS- 8
MATERIALS, ETC NEEDED FOR CLASS- 375-400 yards minimum fingering (sock) weight
yarn. Your choice of needles: double points, 2 circulars (recommend 24”), magic loop
(recommend 32”). If you have never knit socks and don’t know your gauge, you might want to
do a swatch to make sure that you have the size needle that will yield the fabric that you want
for your socks. I’m a tight knitter and use a 2.50mm or a 2.25mm needle depending on the size
of the yarn (since fingering weight yarns do vary). If you are loose knitter, you may want to try a
2.0mm or a 2.25mm. Also needed: 2-4 stitch markers, darning/yarn needle, note paper,
purchase the Fish Lips Kiss help pattern prior to class #2.
PREREQUISITES AND SKILLS NEEDED- Cast-on, cast off, stockinette stitch in the round,
ability to follow written (not charted) directions for heel.
SKILLS TAUGHT- How to measure for sock size, Judy’s magic cast on (if toe up), Kitchener
stitch for toe (if top down), how to fix dropped stitch in stockinette, preventing ladders with
double-points, heels without gaps.
PRE-WORK- Make sure you have purchased and wound yarn and are comfortable with
needles, yarn and gauge.
